Akin Akinwande, MD, FACC
Dr. Akinwande, who is the Jovic founder and coordinating physician, earned his initial medical degree from the University of Ibadan and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the State University of New York Health Science Center and Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Akinwande then completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and an Advanced Fellowship in non-invasive cardiology at the Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital in New Jersey.
Upon successful completion of his medical education, Dr. Akinwande practiced cardiology and held leadership positions such as Chief of Cardiology at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota and as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. He later joined a team of experts at Geisinger Heart Institute in Danville, Pennsylvania. Moving to Indianapolis, he became a partner with Indiana Heart Physicians in association with St. Francis Heart Center where he founded and was Medical Director of the Midwest Valve Center. Dr. Akinwande is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is member of the Aesculapian Medical Society and the Association of Black Cardiologists.
Dr. Akinwande is board certified in, Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiology.
Rebecca K. Barger, NP-C
Rebecca (Becca) K. Barger, NP-C is a graduate of Indiana State University School of Nursing. She attended undergraduate and graduate school here where she obtained her BSN in 2012. After working as a registered nurse on an outpatient surgical and endoscopy unit she returned to ISU to obtain her MSN with a focus in Family Nurse Practitioner. She completed this degree in 2016 and has practiced in emergency and family medicine since this time. She is currently board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners in family practice.
While Becca enjoyed the challenge of the ER, she found she enjoyed the opportunity to build relationships with her patients in the primary care setting more. Becca has a passion for people and helping them improve and/or maintain their quality of life by the simplest means possible. She believes in the importance of taking time to listen and understand each patient so they may work together to develop the best treatment plan to meet each individual’s needs. She has a passion for aiding people in all stages of life solve medical issues related to his/her physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs. While some situations may be best solved in a quick visit, Becca’s ultimate goal is not to get people in and out – it is to make a difference in her patient’s lives.
Becca is originally from Terre Haute, IN and moved to downtown Indianapolis in January of 2017. Becca enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and yoga; though in her free time you will likely find her with her sweet Vizsla pup named Macan.
Gladys Owens, MA Office Manager
Gladys attended Kaplan College for her Medical Assistant education, receiving valedictorian, President's List, Highest honors, and Director's L with Perfect Attendance. She moved from Bolingbrook, Illinois to Indianapolis as a child and has worked for Pinnacle Heart Specialists for 9 years. Ms. Owens loves spending time with her loved ones and friends, traveling, reading and doing Zumba!
